DreamHost

These pages are hosted at DreamHost. They offer a lot of lot of storage space and unlimited domains at a very reasonable price, but as you can see in the table below they aren't perfect either. A lot of people will tell you that DreamHost is the best thing since sliced bread. Keep in mind that DreamHost has an affiliate program and most of those people are motivated by a $97 referral payment. Here are Kevin's thoughts about DreamHost, unbiased by any affiliate payments:

Good things about DreamHostBad things about DreamHost
  • Inexpensive
  • Unlimited domains and subdomains
  • Insanely large storage space (we have 200GB)
  • Insanely high bandwidth (we have 2.3 terabytes/month)
  • Shell access via SSH
  • Employee-owned and privately held
  • Very transparent about their network status
  • One-click install of popular packages such as Gallery (photo album), WordPress (blog), and phpBB (forum).
  • Carbon Neutral! Green web hosting
  • Passwords you select are emailed to you in plain text
  • Online documentation (in Wiki) is sometimes incomplete
  • Lowest price plan has support by email only, and replies can take 1-2 days (or more)
  • Best for people with experience in web hosting and don't mind figuring some things out on their own; I wouldn't recommend DreamHost for novices
  • Significant reliability problems; see the latest uptime chart.
