Hatchlings on sand

The hatchlings are placed on the sand for a short walk to the ocean. Hatchlings imprint on the beach where they start out, and adult females return to that beach to lay their eggs. It's not certain how the imprinting happens -- it may require physical contact with the beach -- so the babies need to walk a little ways rather than being placed directly in the water.
